The Huntington Library is an amazing place for book lovers, botanical enthusiasts and art lovers. It is probably most appropriate for older children and teens who will enjoy looking at the paintings, sculptures, collections of antique books and gardens, but little ones will have fun running about the expansive garden areas. The Huntington is more of a historical estate than a library and it boasts some amazing pieces including a copy of the Gutenberg Bible, Canterbury Tales and the famous Pinky and Blue Boy paintings. The library has 14 themed gardens, including a fun and interactive Children’s Garden for the younger ones. There are free audio tours on site and podcasts available on the website to download to your MP3 player beforehand.
Weekdays tend to be the least crowded and they are cheaper than weekends. Parking is free. Bring a lunch and snacks to eat as the cafe is a little expensive.
There is a free admission day the first Thursday of every month, but it is very crowded and you MUST make advanced reservations online. No audio tours are available on these days.
